Ohio Governor Honors Human Race Directors

Marsha Hanna and Kevin Moore of The Human Race Theatre Company have just received the 2010 Ohio Governor's Award for Arts Administration. Human Race Artistic Director Hanna and Executive Director Moore were cited for creating "one of the best regional Equity theatres in the country."

The two have worked together since they were students at Bowling Green University in the 1970s. Moore has been Executive Director of The Human Race since the inception of the Dayton theatre in 1986, and Hanna, who was involved in the company from the start, became Artistic Director in 1990.

Hanna and Moore were credited with growing The Human Race into an organization "with a wide range of community partnerships and stellar educational programs." The citation says "Moore and Hanna have created an organization where the sense of collaboration and joy of making theatre is apparent and expected, both on stage and in the house," and credits the two with remaining focused on their artistic mission while creating financial stability for 24 years.

The Arts Administration Award was not the only one that touched The Human Race. The Ohio Governor's Award for Arts Patrons went to Jim and Enid Goubeaux of Greenville, who are strong supporters of The Human Race, as well as of numerous other arts organizations in the Dayton Region.
