Playwright Steven Dietz Brings His Take On DRACULA To Seattle

ACT - A Contemporary Theatre Dracula marks the return of award-winning playwright Steven Dietz to ACT. Dietz's bold adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic tale of terror and seduction will mark his twelfth production at ACT. An all-star cast of Seattle actors will join director John Langs, including five of ACT's Core Company Members with Brandon O' Neil in the title role.

Dietz's take on the beloved, bloodcurdling tale of good versus evil includes a surprising twist-Mina, the object of Dracula's desire, sets out to uncover the mysterious haunting of her fiancé and the reason why her closest companion, Lucy, feels her body summoned by howls and whispers in the dark. Mina knows she must boldly challenge the ruler of the night before it's too late. Provocative, empowering, and punctuated by wit, this foray to the dark side is soon to become a cult classic at ACT.

Artistic Director, John Langs says, "The gift of working on a classic play like Dracula is the opportunity to upend the audience's expectations, to dance with a legendary character that everyone knows, and to create unpredictable thrills around every turn. We're pulling out all the stops and through a year-long exploration, have found a new way to deliver this cult classic that will give our audiences the perfect Halloween treat."

The cast of Dracula includes: Brandon O'Neil* (Dracula), Khanh Doan* (Mina), Claudine Mboligikpelani Nako* (Lucy), Avery Clark*(Seward), Arjun Pande (Johnathan Harker), Basil Harris (Renfield) and Lindsay Evans* (Maid, Vixen, Attendant)

*ACT Core Company Member

Directed by John Langs, the creative team includes: Matt Smucker (Scenic Designer), Deborah Trout (Costume Designer), Andrew D. Smith (Lighting Designer), and Robertson Witmer (Sound Designer). Original Music by Rachel Beaver.

Dracula runs October 18-November 17, 2019 in the Allen Theatre at ACT Theatre, 700 Union Street in downtown Seattle. Tickets start at $20 and are on-sale now at acttheatre.org/Dracula
