PlayhouseSquare Season Goes on Sale 9/7

On Friday, September 7 at 11 a.m., more than 80 shows and events that are part of the 2012-13 PlayhouseSquare season, including Broadway, dance, concerts, comedy and family shows, will go on sale to the public. Tickets may be purchased at The PlayhouseSquare Ticket Office (1519 Euclid Ave.), by phone at 216-241-6000 or online at playhousesquare.org/onsale, also available on mobile devices.

The complete list of shows going on sale on September 7 can be viewed at playhousesquare.org/onsale. Visitors to the site can register for a “Key Evening” prize package from KeyBank including a $200 PlayhouseSquare gift card, a $100 “Key Possibilities” gift card, dinner and an overnight stay at the Wyndham Cleveland Hotel and transportation from American Limousine.

The 13th annual PlayhouseSquare District Block Party & Tour is set for Friday, September 7, from 5:00-9:00 p.m., on Star Plaza, located at Euclid Avenue and East 14th Street. The event features live entertainment by The PopTarts and The Fads; a walking tour of The PlayhouseSquare neighborhood; signature dishes by PlayhouseSquare restaurants, A Taste of Excellence, and Johnsonville Sausage; a cash bar and The PlayhouseSquare Cornhole Championship Game. Tickets are $25 each, and can be purchased online at playhousesquare.org or at The PlayhouseSquare Ticket Office.

The 10th Annual Dance Showcase at PlayhouseSquare starts at 7 p.m. on September 7 in the Palace Theatre and features seven of Northeast Ohio’s best professional dance companies (Antaeus Dance, Dance/Theater Collective, Double-Edge Dance, Inlet Dance Theatre, Neos Dance Theatre, Shri Kalaa Mandir and Verb Ballets). At the close of the show, guests will be treated to a special performance of the Grand Pas De Deux from Act II of The Nutcracker by members of The Joffrey Ballet. The Cleveland Orchestra will bring The Joffrey Ballet’s complete silver anniversary production of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker to PlayhouseSquare for five holiday performances November 29 – December 2. Admission to the Dance Showcase is free. Tickets are not required.

Also on September 7, The Galleries @ CSU, the new Cleveland State University art gallery located in the Cowell and Hubbard building at 1307 Euclid Avenue, opens to the public with a free reception from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The inaugural exhibition celebrates the first CSU faculty group show in 15 years and runs through October 20. The Galleries @ CSU is the newest venue in the University’s Arts Campus at PlayhouseSquare.
