The Senior Development Officer (SDO) will provide strategic direction and leadership for a full range of development activities including annual giving, major gifts, foundation relations, special events and corporate sponsorships.



ArtsEmerson, Boston’s premier presenter of contemporary theatre, and HowlRound, an online knowledge commons for and by and for the theater community, both sit within the Office of The Arts, and the SDO will have the opportunity to bring innovative approaches to continue the expansion of both organization’s development programs and to lead campaign activities toward ArtsEmerson’s 10th Anniversary (Fall 2019). The SDO will partner with the Associate Vice President to build and implement a robust development program.



Primary Duties, Responsibilites, and Tasks

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Education:



5 years of related professional experience



• Leadership skills and the capacity to implement and advance the development goals

• Strong management and interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, donors and college colleagues

• Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively and to communicate effectively with a range of audiences

• Strong sense of fundraising ethics

• Strong work ethic, flexibility and an optimistic and positive attitude rooted in the values of the Office of the Arts



Develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans for annual and campaign fundraising; ongoing major gift development and solicitation; stewardship activities including donor and cultivations events; prospect communication, participation and giving; and corporate and foundation relations and engagement.



Job Description:

Identify fundraising priorities in partnership with the AVP; plan and direct the cultivation and solicitation of AE and HR prospects by the Executive and Artistic Directors. Advise OA departments regarding securing funds for special projects.



In collaboration with the Emerson College Development Office, drive prospect management and related record keeping and communications, as well as prospect research and portfolio analytics.



Initiate reports, conduct studies, analyze data and perform other tasks related to development at the direction of the Associate Vice President.



Manage and mentor the development team, including Sr. Manager of Development Operations, Foundations Relations Manager, Development Associate, consultants, and freelancers as required



Lead, mentor, and coordinate the efforts of the Office of the Arts Development Team



Organize, problem solve, raise issues, and integrate initiatives, solutions, and actions for the AVP. Act as an executive liaison to ensure successful implementation of all development priorities.



Work with staff to set and evaluate individual goals, develop and sustain appropriate training, identify and recommend professional development opportunities for staff members, and assign and ensure coverage of primary areas of focus.



Through collegial consultation and cooperation, demonstrate and be a model of collaboration in the Emerson College/Office of the Arts development community. Maintain strong lines of communication with colleagues in the development and finances offices at the college, to ensure synergy in achieving OA’s fundraising goals and objectives. Work with other development personnel in identifying prospect opportunities and supporting the overall college campaign goals.



Salary Grade 19.
