The Pompano Players are a new resident theatre company that will operate out of the Pompano Beach Cultural Center beginning this fall. The captivating productions by the Pompano Players in the 2024-25 season are brought to you by the City of Pompano Beach Cultural Affairs Department in collaboration with ACM Theatricals. Our mission will focus on uniting our community through the power of the arts. Join us for an unforgettable experience that celebrates creativity, culture, and connection. It’s a story of the women’s roles and the clothes chosen to represent the changes and challenges of every woman. An extremely keen sense of comedy is a must for all characters. Female 1 (45-60) Scholarly, believably of Norwegian descent. As the “Narrator”, she is the backbone of the show, interacting with the audience and the other three women to bring the stories to life. Must be warm and welcoming, with the ability to make the audience feel she is talking directly to them individually. Moderate singing and some movement required. Featured songs include: "Che Sera Sera", "In My Daughter's Eyes", "Piece of my Heart" and “Beautiful”. Female 2 (25-40) Can sing jazz, soul, R&B. Dance skills a plus. She is abrasive—the “hard-hearted Hannah,” and needs to find her vulnerability. Real courage is not displayed by aggression or overdone power. She learns to temper her strength, to push back in more productive ways. Featured songs include: “I Will Survive”, “Where the Boys Are”, and “Respect.” A woman of Black / African Descent is preferred. Female 3 (25-35) Can sing standard musical theater and pop. Dance skills a plus. The ingenue of the group, bouncy, energetic, a bit ditsy, but full of heart. She is innocent and naïve, searching for her own strength and belief in herself. Featured songs include: "As Long As He Needs Me", "It Must Be Him", and "Greatest Love of All”. Female 4 (35-45) Can sing standard musical theater, jazz, and pop. Dance skills a plus. Possibly someone with a larger build or someone who has previously had a different body size; she is greatly lacking in self-confidence. Her only source of strength is her sexuality and her body, which she nonetheless detests. She finally learns to accept herself and find inner strength.
