Summer on Stage Internship - Arizona Theatre Company

LISTING INFORMATION

Internship Dates: June 18, 2018 – July 29, 2018

Overview:

Arizona Theatre Company supports the ongoing learning for future professionals through our Summer on Stage / Summer Backstage programs. Each internship (whether production or education) is structured to provide a solid and inclusive professional experience within our company, serving as a springboard to your future career.

Specific skill demands vary based on department, but basic requirements for any SOS internship include literacy, a sense of humor, passion, and curiosity.

Internship applicants must be 18 years or older and be a high school graduate. Applicants who are still eligible to enroll as a student in the Summer on Stage or Summer Backstage programs will not be considered for an internship and are encouraged to register for the program that best fits with their interests. Student eligibility for the Summer on Stage and Summer Backstage programs range from the summer before you enter high school to the summer after graduating high school.

Internships vary depending on the individual applicant and their area of interest. However, all SOS Internships at Arizona Theatre Company include:

- Shadowing of theatre professionals, creating contacts that could lead to opportunities following the internship;

- Creative development with ongoing evaluation and skills-based learning;

- Production experience: Interns are involved in both SOS productions (musical and play);

- Cross-departmental work within Education and Production to aid understanding of how a nonprofit arts organization works as a whole;

- Space to tailor the internship to individual needs and interests;

- Complimentary tickets to both SOS productions;

- A supportive and welcoming environment in which to grow.

Internships are based on a 40-hour work week, with the exception of technical rehearsals, and production interns receive a stipend of $1000 for the program. Housing is not provided. Non-paid school credit internships are also available through the program.

Types of Internships:

Production Internships: Stage Management and Technical Theatre

The production interns act as integral parts of the production team for Arizona Theatre Company’s Summer on Stage program. Internships are offered in Stage Management, Technical Direction / Scenic Construction, Paints and Props, Costume Design and Construction, Sound, and Production Management. Interns will gain skills and expertise in their area through hands-on experience and mentorship from their on-site supervisor. Interns with experience in their area of concentration may be offered the opportunity to take on a bigger leadership role, possibly acting as a Stage Manager, Assistant Technical Director, or similar positions for one of the productions.

These internships are offered as full-time positions.

Education Internships: Teaching Artists and Administrative Assistance

The Learning & Education Department seeks interns for the following roles: teaching artists for movement, voice, or acting class assistants/instruction; administrative duties as assigned from the SOS Program Manager, Artistic Director, or Production Manager (as needed). Teaching artists with technical theatre experience are encouraged to apply. Intern placement and training is based on each candidate’s current knowledge and their desire to learn. Interns will gain skills in their desired area through hands-on experience and mentorship from their on-site supervisor. Applicants for these positions should have some prior experience in their field.

These internships are offered as both full- and part-time positions.
