Summer Fellowship: Director/Choreographer - Des Moines Performing Arts

Summer 2017



Des Moines Performing Arts seeks a dynamic, highly qualified Director/Choreographer for its Summer Fellowship program. The fellowship invites emerging directors enrolled in graduate programs or equivalent experience to collaboratively lead a series of summer, musical theater-based performance camps for young artists in grades 3-8.



Director/Choreographer will be responsible for:



· Participating in production meetings and camp planning prior to start of sessions



· Auditioning participants and casting decisions



· Leading rehearsals, including staging scenes and choreographing musical numbers



· Facilitating daily skill-based workshops outside of rehearsals



· Creating a safe and supportive atmosphere for participants to explore, grow, and create



Required skills and experience:



· MA or MFA candidates preferred, Bachelors in Theater, Directing, or Acting required



· Previous experience in directing



· Demonstrated ability to choreograph and teach movement for various experience levels



· Previous experience working with youth



· Excellent communication, organizational and facilitation skills



This fellowship will begin early June 2017. Applicants must be available a minimum of 40-45 hours per week. The fellowship will conclude late July, with the option of extending through mid-August if additional camp sessions are added to meet demand. Stipend and housing assistance provided.

Des Moines Performing Arts’ Summer Fellowship Program offers excellent practical experience for early-career Directors and Music Directors with an interest in working with youth to develop their educational theater and production skills.
