2019-2020 Season Internships - Orlando Repertory Theatre

Join our team! Orlando Repertory Theatre is seeking Costuming, Scenic, Lighting, Props, Stage Management, and Education interns for the 2019-2020 season!



Orlando Repertory Theatre is a professional theatre for young audiences and families located in sunny Orlando, FL. The Orlando REP staff strives to create a comfortable atmosphere for growing and learning while our interns hone their professional skills and build their portfolio under our wing. Costuming Internship:

The Costuming Internship is a construction-based and project-oriented experience that is essential to anyone building his or her portfolio or gaining real-world experience in a costume shop. Interns work side-by-side with the Costume Shop staff and Show Designers to construct each production. They are involved in all parts of the build process from deciphering designer’s renderings to building, pulling, and altering garments. Applicants should have basic sewing skills and the ability to read and follow a pattern. Advanced sewing skills, such as pattern drafting and draping are a plus but are not required. This internship is based on a 40 hour work week and the intern receives a weekly stipend of $175 to assist with living expenses. Housing is not provided.



While this internship is preferred to run as a year-long opportunity (end of May 2019 through May 2020), it is also available as a summer internship (end of May 2019 through August 2019) or as a season internship (August 2019 through May 2020). Please specify in your application which internship length you prefer.



Scenic Internship:

The Scenic Internship provides a professional experience working in a theatrical scene shop. Each intern has the opportunity to experience and learn industry trades in the shop ranging from the more common woodworking techniques to more complicated metalworking and welding practices. Working closely with the Scene Shop staff, interns also gain other experience throughout the build process including loading-in, striking scenery, and basic rigging techniques. Applicants should have experience in theatrical carpentry, reading technical drawings, and should be comfortable working with power tools. This internship is based on a 40 hour work week and the intern receives a weekly stipend of $175 to assist with living expenses. Housing is not provided.

Lighting Internship:

The Lighting Internship provides practical application to anyone building his or her professional resume. While working side-by-side with the Lighting Department staff, interns gain hands-on experience in all aspects of theatrical lighting from hanging, circuiting, and focus calls to special effects, production paperwork, and equipment maintenance. Interns even have the opportunity to join the electrics run crew for certain productions, and may work closely with sound, projections, and production intercom. Applicants should have a basic knowledge of theatrical lighting and electrics, be comfortable with heights, and capable of lighting up to 50 pounds. This internship is based on a 40 hour work week and the intern receives a weekly stipend of $175 to assist with living expenses. Housing is not provided.

Props Internship:

The Props Internship is a project-oriented experience essential to anyone building his or her portfolio or seeking professional experience. From paper crafts to foam sculpting, and woodworking to upholstery, interns work side-by-side with Orlando REP’s Props Master to procure, build, finish, and maintain props and set dressing for each production. Applicants should have basic knowledge of carpentry, sewing, and painting, as well as a valid drivers license, and comfortable working with power tools. This internship is based on a 40 hour work week and the intern receives a weekly stipend of $175 to assist with living expenses. Housing is not provided.

Stage Management Internship:

The Stage Management Internship provides a professional experience essential to anyone building his or her portfolio. Working side-by-side with Orlando REP’s resident Stage Manager, you will become an integral part in supporting the production process as the Assistant Stage Manager. You will have the unique opportunity to work with Orlando REP’s award winning Youth Academy on the largest production of the year over the summer, as well as working on up to 4 different productions as part of our professional season. From production meetings to rehearsals, and from generating paperwork to managing actors and technicians, you will gain experience in all aspects of stage management. Applicants should have previous stage management experience from an academic environment and be comfortable working with children. This internship is based on a 40 hour work week and the intern receives a weekly stipend of $175 to assist with living expenses. Housing is not provided.



Internship dates are August 2019 through August 2020.



Education Internship:

In addition to providing administrative support with the daily operations of the Education Department and its staff, the Education Intern will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects throughout the season. Projects may include researching and creating show dramaturgy, assisting or teaching in our Youth Academy, Arts and Character Training, or Field Trip Plus workshops. This internship provides exposure to Sunshine State Standards, professional youth productions, Arts Integration workshops and seminars, community focused arts experiences, and the development of Education Department programming. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience, strong researching and writing skills, an understanding of arts administration, and is comfortable working with children, teachers, and parents. This internship is based on a 40 hour work week and the intern receives a weekly stipend of $175 to assist with living expenses. Housing is not provided.



Internship dates are August 2019 through May 2020.
