Photo Flash: CRIMES OF THE HEART on The Showboat, Opens 8/5
The Showboat Majestic will continue the 87th summer season with Beth Henley's 1981 Pulitzer Prize winning play, Crimes of the Heart. Performances run August 5 - August 23, 2009.
Crimes of the Heart - In Hazlehurst, Mississippi, the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of their grandfather, living out his last hours in the local hospital. Lenny, the oldest, is unmarried at thirty and facing diminishing prospects; Meg, the middle sister, is back after a failed singing career on the West Coast; while Babe, the youngest, is out on bail, having recently shot her husband. Their grave yet, somehow hilarious troubles are highlighted by their priggish cousin, Chick, and Babe's awkward young lawyer who is helplessly in love with her. In the end, the characters escape the past to seize their future-but the telling is so true, touching and hilarious that it will linger in the heart long after the last bow.
