My Mañana Comes is a fun and high-energy production that exposes the travails of immigrant workers and how their quest for the American Dream often clashes with society’s views on immigration. Within the kitchen of an elegant New York restaurant as its background, this play is a snapshot of the lives of four busboys from different social backgrounds that cling to dreams of life beyond their dingy back-of-house grind while juggling delicate entrees, serving fussy customers, and facing an opportunistic manager. My Mañana Comes was a Lucille Lortel Outstanding Play nominee, Drama Desk Outstanding Play nominee, Outer Critics Circle John Gassner Award nominee and received its critically acclaimed off Broadway debut by the Playwrights Realm in 2014. In addition to Teatro Vista, the production is also slated to be performed at San Diego REPertory Theatre, Marin Theatre Company and ArtsWest Seattle. The cast of My Mañana Comes includes Dennis García, Cameron Knight, Víctor Maraña and Johnathan Nieves.

ABOUT ELIZABETH IRWIN, playwright

Elizabeth Irwin was born in Worcester, raised by Brooklyn and finished by el D.F. (aka Mexico City). Before becoming a playwright she was a high school English teacher followed by a very long stint as a wanderer. She was selected as a member of the 2012-13 Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab while living shoe-free on a Mexican beach so she came back to New York. She then became a Playwrights Realm Writing Fellow in 2013, followed by Playwrights Realm’s Page One Resident Playwright in 2014-15.

ABOUT SANDRA MÁRQUEZ, director

Sandra Márquez is an actor, director and educator, as well as a longtime ensemble member of Teatro Vista, serving as the company’s Associate Artistic Director from 1998 – 2006. Venues worked as an actor include Victory Gardens, Steppenwolf, The Goodman, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and off-Broadway at Second Stage Uptown. Last season she received a Jeff Award for Best Actress for her work in Teatro Vista’s A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller. Most recently she directed the well-received Pride Films and Plays production of Men on the Verge of a Hispanic Breakdown. This fall she will be playing Clytemnestra in Agamemnon at Court Theater and later in the season she will be in Mary Page Marlow at Steppenwolf. Some of her on-camera credits include Boss and Timer as well as many national commercials. ABOUT TEATRO VISTA

Teatro Vista, Theatre with a View (Ricardo Gutiérrez, Executive Artistic Director; José Antonio Cruz, Managing Director), is firmly committed to sharing and celebrating the riches of Latino culture with Chicago theater audiences and beyond.

This commitment stems from the belief that there are as many similarities between people as there are differences, and perhaps the answer to breaking down the walls of prejudice and stereotypes lies in understanding these similarities and differences. Ultimately, it is through this “view” that Teatro Vista intends to bridge the gap between Latino and non-Latino cultures in Chicago.

The company believes in the transformative power of theater, inclusiveness through the idea that everyone is intricately connected to each other and that sharing stories through performance is an exceptionally potent way to bring people together.

Teatro Vista is the vanguard of Latino theatre in the United States, a place where Latino and non-Latino artists can expressively flourish and excel to the highest level of theatrical professionalism. It is dedicated to sharing new work by new playwrights in cutting-edge productions and presenting classic plays featuring artists of color.
