The New Colony's STANLEY IN THE NAME OF LOVE Makes World Premiere Tonight

By:
The New Colony is pleased to continue its 2015 season with the pop-infused world premiere musical comedy STANLEY IN THE NAME OF LOVE, written and directed by Mr. Margaret Svetlove, with an original score by The Delicious Moons (Nickolas Blazina, Henry Riggs, Alex Kliner and Sean Kelly). STANLEY IN THE NAME OF LOVE will play tonight, July 30, through August 29, 2015 at The New Colony's resident home, The Den Theatre (Upstairs Mainstage), 1333 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. Tickets go on sale Monday, June 1, 2015 at www.thenewcolony.org. The press opening is Monday, August 3 at 7:30 pm.

STANLEY IN THE NAME OF LOVE will feature Breon Arzell, Christina Boucher, David Cerda, Luke Michael Grimes, Jude Hansen, Steve Love, Jeff Meyer and Michael Peters.

A trailer park fairy decides to become a pornstar because he wants to fall in love. Stanley, his hag, and a chorus of gay angels take off on the Road to Love. Along the way, they find Rod Fullalove, a beguiling pornstar, a man with a deep hole to fill. The powers of love and meaninglessness collide in this absurdist gay porn dance pop musical.

Comments Co-Artistic Director Andrew Hobgood, "Mr. Margaret Svetlove is a madman. End of story. This musical is one of the craziest projects ever pitched to The New Colony. I assume everyone on the planet will be at least a little offended by it but the music is so good I can't stop listening to it. I hate to love this show and you should too."

The production team for STANLEY IN THE NAME OF LOVE includes: Zachary Gipson (scenic design), Curtis Cassell (costume design), John Kelly (lighting design), Jeannine Stupka (associate choreographer), JD Caudill (assistant director) and Garth Moritz (production stage manager). Soundtrack/sound design: produced by Nickolas Blazina and Sean Kelly, engineered by Nickolas Blazina.

The production will play The Den Theatre Upstairs Mainstage, 1333 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago. Previews: Thursday, July 30 at 7:30 pm, Friday, July 31 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, August 1 at 7:30 pm. Press opening: Monday, August 3 at 7:30 pm. Regular run: Thursday, August 6 - Saturday, August 29, 2015. Curtain times: Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm. About the Director: Mr. Margaret Svetlove aka Sean Kelly (Playwright/Director) Sean Kelly is the Creative Director of The New Colony. He is a Chicago-born writer and director. He has directed at Porchlight Music Theatre, Victory Gardens, Collaboraction, The Old Town School of Folk Music and his home - The New Colony, among others. Of his work he says: I work in fabulous pseudonyms. I am more plagiarist than playwright. More curator than writer. I claim these stories are no more mine than anyone else's. Whereas others borrow, I merely steal. I stole that too. It's Stravinsky.

The New Colony, the 2011 recipient of the Broadway In Chicago Emerging Theater Award, strives to contribute original material to the American artistic canon and develop a new kind of theater going audience. Through collaboration with emerging artists of all disciplines, The New Colony continually develops new work and fresh perspectives. With the goal of exploring enticing subject matter and the common language of experience, The New Colony will cultivate the next generation of arts supporters.
