Teatro Vista Announces 2018-19 Season

Teatro Vista, Chicago's leading professional Latinx theater company for nearly 30 years, announced today its 2018-19 season line-up.

American Jornalero, a Chicago premiere by Ed Cardona Jr. about a group of Latinx immigrant day laborers who are confronted by self-styled America First vigilantes, directed by Nate Santana, is Teatro Vista's fall opener.

American Jornalero doubles as Teatro Vista's entry in the Chicago Latino International Theatre Festival, sponsored by the Chicago Latino Theatre Alliance. Performances areOctober 18-21, 2018 at the Richard Christiansen Theatre at the Victory Gardens Biograph.

With 2019 comes The Abuelas, another world premiere by Stephanie Allison Walker, author of Teatro Vista's hit production earlier this spring, The Madres. Walker's newest play, set in Chicago, is a sequel to The Madres, and it peels back the layers, long reach and devastating repercussions of Argentina's military dictatorship from 1976-1983. Teatro Vista Artistic Director Ricardo Gutiérrez will direct. Performances of The Abuelas areFebruary 9 - March 17, 2019 in the Richard Christiansen Theater at the Victory Gardens Biograph.

Teatro Vista's 2018-19 finale is a revival of the company's biggest hit ever, La Havana Madrid by Sandra Delgado, directed by Cheryl Lynn Bruce. Back by popular demand, Delgado's theatrical, cinematic and musical history of Latino Caribbeans in Chicago recreates a long-gone nightclub that once drew throngs of newly arrived Cuban, Puerto Rican and Colombian immigrants to Chicago's north side in the 1960s. Experience the vibrant music and true stories of La Havana Madrid, which debuted in 2017 to sold out runs at Steppenwolf's 1700 Theatre, The Miracle Center and the Goodman's Owen Theatre. Teatro Vista's spring remount of La Havana Madrid is a co-production with Collaboraction. Performances are April 4 - May 12, 2019 at a venue TBA.

Tickets to Teatro Vista Productions are $20-$50, with discounts for early bird purchasers, students, seniors and groups of 10 or more.

Single tickets to American Jornalero will be sold via the Chicago Latino International Theatre Festival website, clata.org.

Tickets to The Abuelas go on sale January 6, 2019 via the Victory Gardens box office,(773) 871-3000 and online at teatrovista.org.

Tickets to La Havana Madrid also go on sale on September 4 at collaboraction.org.
