Chicago Dance Crash To Premiere expo/sd at Ruth Page Center for the Arts

Chicago Dance Crash will present expo/sd, a world premiere concert curated by Artistic Director KC Bevis, on July 24 and 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts.

The program will feature new works by choreographers Annie Franklin, Cameron McKinney, and Crash resident choreographer Elijah Motley. Tickets are priced at $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under.

Franklin’s new work examines the relationship between traditional street dance and contemporary forms, focusing on improvisation, intimacy, and vulnerability in performance. Performed to an original score by local music producer e j e c t, the piece explores themes of voyeurism and emotional exposure through freestyle movement practices. The work was developed with support from the Chicago Cultural Center and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.

Also featured will be A 4 Bar Loop, a new repertory work by Elijah Motley. Drawing from Motley’s experience growing up as a Black man in the American South, the piece reflects on the legacy of the Jim Crow era, generational memory, and ongoing conversations surrounding race and civil rights.

Cameron McKinney’s new duet, Fall From Grace, explores physical endurance and emotional honesty through what McKinney describes as a state of “meditative exhaustion.” The work examines the body pushed to its limits as a pathway toward vulnerability and self-revelation.

The performances will take place for one weekend only, with the company noting that both evenings will differ due to the improvisational and freestyle elements incorporated throughout the program.

Founded more than two decades ago, Chicago Dance Crash creates multidisciplinary work blending street dance, concert dance, and physical theater. The company is known for its narrative-driven choreography and hybrid movement vocabulary.
