Broadway In Chicago has announced that Avenue Q - the Tony Award-winning smash-hit musical about trying to make it in New York with big dreams and a tiny bank account - will hold its Chicago premiere this coming spring with a limited two-week engagement from May 27 - June 7, 2008 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph St) as part of its national tour.

The show is the creation of a host of talented young theatre artists, 30-somethings all.  It features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx; and directed by Jason Moore.  The show "features a cast of people and puppets who tell their story in a smart, risque and downright entertaining way," state press notes.

Avenue Q opened on Broadway on July 31, 2003 to acclaim. It went on to win three 2004 Tony Awards: Best Musical, Best Original Score of a Musical (Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx) and Best Book of a Musical (Jeff Whitty).  More than 1,500 performances later, the musical plays to enthusiastic audiences eight times a week. In June of 2006, the show opened its first international production in London's West End at the Noel Coward Theatre.  Previously, it played a 10-month engagement in Las Vegas in 2005-06.

Avenue Q features puppet design by Rick Lyon, musical supervision by Stephen Oremus, choreography by Ken Roberson, scenic design  by Anna Louizos, costume design by Mirena Rada, lighting design by Howell Binkley, and sound design by ACME Sound Partners.

The musical is produced by Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Jeffrey Seller, Vineyard Theatre and The New Group.  Casting will be announced at a later date.

Avenue Q will premiere in Chicago this coming spring with a limited two-week engagement from May 27 - June 7, 2008 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph St) as part of its national tour.    Tickets are now available to groups of 20 or more by calling (312) 977-1710.  The individual ticket pricing and on-sale date will be announced at a later date.

Avenue Q is part of the 2008 Walgreens Broadway In Chicago Season Series.
