'Altar Boyz' Extends at Chicago's Drury Lane thru Jan 2008

By:

By popular demand, the award-winning Off-Broadway musical comedy, Altar Boyz, will continue on at Drury Lane Water Tower Place, 175 E. Chestnut Street, in Chicago, through January 6, 2008.  The new block of tickets, priced from $45 to $55, will go on-sale Friday, October 12 at 10AM via the Drury Lane Water Tower Place Box Office, by calling 312-642-2000 or online at Ticketmaster.com.

"Armed with catchy melodies, divine moves and gobs of hair product, Altar Boyz is a hilarious, holy-inspiring musical comedy about five small-town boys – Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham – trying to save the world one screaming fan at a time," explain press notes, "Presented as a concert in real-time, Altar Boyz sweetly satirizes the phenomenon of boy bands, the popularity of Christian-themed music, and excessive product placement in contemporary American culture.  The group's amusingly pious pop act features slick dance moves, heavenly harmonies, and laugh-out-loud lyrics such as 'Girl You Make Me Wanna Wait' and 'Jesus Called Me on My Cell Phone.'

Since beginning performances on September 28, this new production of Altar Boyz has been met with overwhelming audience response and widespread critical acclaim. This production of Altar Boyz is directed by Stafford Arima, choreographed by Christopher Gattelli (both of the original New York creative team), and produced by Joe McGinnis, a recent Tony Award winner for Spring Awakening (Best Musical 2007), and Bart Kahn, who also serves as Resident Director.  Musical Director Alan Bukowiecki conducts a band on-stage comprised of Jeremy Ramey on keyboard, Ethan Deppe on drums, and Malcolm Ruhl on guitar.

The performance schedule for Altar Boyz, through January 6, 2008, is as follows:  Wednesdays & Thursdays at 7:30PM, Fridays at 8PM, Saturdays at 2PM & 8PM, and Sundays at 2PM & 5PM.  There will be additional evening performances on Tuesdays at 7:30PM on October 16 & 30, November 6 & 20, and December 4 & 18.  There will be additional matinee performances on Wednesdays at 2PM on October 10 & 24, November 14 & 28, and December 12 & 26.  There will be an additional performance on New Year's Eve (Monday, December 31) at 5PM & 8PM.  There will be no performances on Christmas Day (Tuesday, December 25), New Years Day (Tuesday, January 1), or Wednesday, January 2.

Tickets, priced from $45 to $55, are currently on sale via the Drury Lane Water Tower Place Box Office, by calling 312-642-2000 or online at Ticketmaster.com.  A select number of VIP tickets are available for $75.  Discounts are available for groups of 15 or more by calling 312-423-6612.  A limited number of student rush tickets, priced at $25, will be available the day of each performance at the Drury Lane Box Office only.
