Piedmont Players proudly presents Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, under the direction of Tina Kelly. Set in 1905 New York City, the play follows Esther (Raven Monroe), a gifted Black seamstress who crafts exquisite lingerie for an eclectic clientele—from the refined Mrs. Van Buren (Amy Hope) to the vibrant Mayme (Teresa Long). Though surrounded by intimacy in her work, Esther quietly longs for a love and life of her own.
When a correspondence romance with George (Duane DeBerry), a laborer working on the Panama Canal, sparks hope for something more, Esther dares to dream beyond the confines of her world. But as reality collides with expectation, she is forced to confront hard truths about trust, identity, and independence.
Featuring a powerful ensemble including Kari Johnson as Mrs. Dickson and Aaron Zimmerman as Mr. Marks, with stage management by Marissa Gainey, Intimate Apparel is a rich, emotionally resonant exploration of race, class, gender, and the courage it takes to claim your own future.
