Matthews Playhouse

One Year to Die is a poignant World War II drama by Charles LaBorde that delves into life on the home front in a small Louisiana town during 1943-1944. The story centers on Edwina, portrayed by Paula Baldwin, and Ella, played by Dr. Corlis Hayes, as they navigate the challenges of waiting for news about their sons while crossing racial barriers. Inspired by true events from LaBorde's family history, the play highlights the resilience and struggles of women sustaining the nation during a tumultuous time. Directed by Dennis Delamar, this production marks the opening of Matthews Playhouse's 29th season.
