Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) invites you to attend Sensoria, its annual 10-day celebration of literature and the arts, featuring visual art, dance, theatre, music, film, culture, history, and more. Join CPCC as it celebrates its 25th year of literary events and hosts nearly 90 events on multiple campuses, including the following highlights:

- March 31 - April 9 - CPCC Theatre presents August Wilson's "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" which won the 1985 Tony Award for Best Play. With this, CPCC Instructor Corlis Hayes directs her fourth of the 10 plays of August Wilson's Century Cycle chronicling the African-American experience through the 20th century - her goal is to bring all 10 to Charlotte at Sensoria. This is parallel to Denzel Washington's vow to realize them all in film, as he began with the Academy Award-nominated "Fences." (ticketed event)

- March 31 - April 2 - CPCC Opera Theatre presents Giacomo Puccini's "Tosca." Powerful and tragic, with spine-tingling music, Puccini's iconic "Tosca" is one of the handful of operas regularly performed by major companies worldwide. (ticketed event)

- Monday, April 3 - A Sign of the Times Band: Red, Black & Brown: A Celebration of the Cultural Contributions of Native, Black, and Latino Americans, explores the connections between red, black and brown folks using music (from African, Salsa, Jazz, R&B and Rap), dances (from the African Diaspora to hip-hop) and stories.

- Wednesday, April 5 - George Saunders, the 2017 Irene Blair Honeycutt Distinguished Lecturer and New York Times bestselling fiction writer, will discuss kindness in the morning and his new novel "Lincoln in the Bardo" at night. Though neither of these events are ticketed, groups can reserve seats for his morning talk. Saunders is "the best short story writer in English-not 'one of',' not 'arguably,' but the Best."-Time

- Thursday, April 6 - We See Heaven Upside Down, art by Lee Baumgarten and MyLoan Dinh opens, with artists' talks and a performance by Moving Poets. Plus, Poet A. Van Jordan speaks about what poetry can be about and reads from his own work in morning and evening events.

- Friday & Saturday, April 7 and 8 - Paul Taylor Dance Company. Paul Taylor is the greatest living pioneer of American modern dance. Since founding the world-renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company in 1954, he has choreographed 144 dances, many of which have attained iconic status and have been celebrated throughout the world. The company has toured some 524 cities in 64 countries, but has not performed in Charlotte in 15 years. (ticketed event)

Admission to most events is free, so bring a friend and join us for Charlotte's finest literary and arts festival. It runs March 31 - April 9, 2017 at CPCC Campuses, including Central Campus, 1201 Elizabeth Ave., Charlotte. To see a full calendar of events at all campuses, visit sensoria.cpcc.edu.
