For the fourth consecutive year, theatre students from all four Henderson County High Schools will team up Flat Rock Playhouse and Studio 52 artists to write, direct, and perform four original 10-minute plays - all within 24 hours. Four writing teams made up of one Flat Rock Playhouse mentor and four student writers representing each high school will convene that Friday at 5:00pm. By 11:00 PM that evening, each writing team will have written one 10-minute play. The scripts will be sent to one of the four high school theatre teachers, serving as directors, who will make preparations for rehearsals beginning at 9 AM Saturday, January 16.

Each cast will include students from all four high schools in effort to create further cross-county artistic sharing. Students will receive their freshly written scripts Saturday morning, learn lines and blocking, and with the directors decide on any technical elements for their final performance.

Saturday afternoon, Flat Rock Playhouse technical artists will join the actors and directors in the Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown theatre where each cast will have 50 minutes to incorporate lights, sound and costumes into their play. After each group has had their individual time, there will be one dress rehearsal where each cast will see the other plays performed for the first time.

"I'm proud that Flat Rock Playhouse and Studio 52 are teaming up once again with Henderson County High School Theatre departments for the fourth annual 24 Hour Playwriting Challenge," says Flat Rock Playhouse Artistic Director Lisa K. Bryant. "Watching these young artists come together from rival high schools and work together with such enthusiasm and pride for their work is inspiring on many levels. The event has grown in popularity with each year so get there early before the seats fill up and show your support!"

At 6:30 PM, the doors will open to the public, and, ready or not, the show will go on promptly at 7 PM. Seating is on a first come, first served basis. Admission is free. Donations are welcome at the door.

The Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown is located at 125 S. Main Street, Hendersonville.
