Presented by the People's Shakespeare Project | “Moneys is your suit…” as Shylock, the money lender, says to the merchant, Antonio. This Venice is all about money where buying, selling, lending and borrowing is the name of the game. Where ugly prejudice and violence against Shylock, “The Jew”, is acceptable behavior…until his money is needed. Where the outcast who has silently suffered this abuse his entire life is finally driven to revenge. This is a powerful play that encourages us to dig beneath the shiny surface and face ourselves. It’s what Shakespeare does best!
A free 20-minute Audience Perspective talk by a local scholar will begin 45 minutes before the performance to provide insight & perspective related to the performance. Seating is limited and not guaranteed.
