By:

Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts (PTPA) is proud to announce a very epic main stage book event featuring one of Comedy Central's "100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time," NORM MACDONALD, who will discuss his first book BASED ON A TRUE STORY: A Memoir (Spiegel & Grau) on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m.Macdonald will be interviewed on stage by a yet-to-be-announced special guest. He will signing copies of his memoir in the Theatre lobby following his book discussion.

It is confirmed that former "Saturday Night Live" writer and puppeteer of "Triumph the Insult Comic Dog" Robert Smigel will interview Norm Macdonald about his first book on the Patchogue Theatre Main Stage next Tuesday, Sept. 20. Smigel also co-wrote the films "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" and both "Hotel Transylvania" animated films starring Adam Sandler.

As this book's title suggests, Norm Macdonald tells the story of his life-more or less-from his origins on a farm in the-back-of-beyond Canada and an epically disastrous appearance on Star Search to his account of auditioning for Lorne Michaels and his memorable run as the anchor of "Weekend Update" on Saturday Night Live - until he was fired because a corporate executive didn't think he was funny. But BASED ON A TRUE STORY is much more than a memoir; it's the hilarious, inspired epic of Norm's life.

NORM MACDONALD is a stand-up comedian, writer, producer, and actor. He was a cast member on Saturday Night Live for five seasons, and one of the most beloved and controversial anchors of "Weekend Update." Macdonald wrote for Roseanne and starred in The Norm Show. He was a judge on the 2015 season of Last Comic Standing. He has appeared in numerous movies, television shows, and has done voiceovers in many animated features and TV shows.

Tickets for Norm Macdonald's book event are available online, by phone or at the box office. General admission is $20. There will be a question and answer session with the audience following Macdonald and Smigel's discussion. Hardcover copies of Norm Macdonald's new book, BASED ON A TRUE STORY: A Memoir will be on sale in the Theatre Lobby on the day of the event for Macdonald to sign.
