Alison Brown Quartet Comes to Utica, 3/31
Alison Brown has achieved success in many areas: a Harvard graduate, Compass Records label co-founder and owner, mother, and, the role that most people know her in: a Grammy-winning banjo virtuoso and 10 albums under her belt.
The Alison Brown Quartet offers up what's being described as "an astonishingly original instrumental sound that blends bluegrass, jazz, Latin and Celtic music and takes the banjo far from its stereotyped hillbilly roots."
Since 1994, the Alison Brown Quartet has toured domestically and abroad, including performances at The Kennedy Center, MerleFest, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Celtic Connections, Newport Folk Festival, Dublin National Concert Hall, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Cambridge Folk Festival, The Edmonton Folk Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Strawberry Music Festival and the Philadelphia Folk Festival.
