THE VERDICT To Play Vertigo Theatre
Courtroom drama adapted from Barry Reed novel will run May through June.
Residing on Treaty 7 Territory and the Métis Nation of Alberta (Districts 5 and 6). Vertigo Theatre will present THE VERDICT by Barry Reed, adapted for the stage by Margaret May Hobbs, May 9 - June 7.
Frank Galvin is a washed-up, alcoholic lawyer who is presiding over what should be an open- and-shut malpractice case. Suspecting a cover-up, he daringly refuses an out-of-court settlement and instead takes on negligent doctors and the unforgiving and powerful Boston medical establishment. This is a day in court that is not to be missed.
Artistic Director and THE VERDICT Director Jack Grinhaus says "The 'David vs Goliath' nature of this play is one we can all get behind and recognize. In Frank Galvin, we have a hero who is seeking one last chance, one last shot at redemption in a case that seems insurmountable. Often in our Vertigo shows we are concerned with the whodunnit and why. Now we are adding 'how can we prove it?' to the mix, through all the tension, morality, theatricality and energy of a courtroom trial."
THE VERDICT features Shaun Smyth as Frank Galvin, Shawna Burnett as Mrs. McDaid/Mary Rooney, Steven Morton as Bishop Brophy, Christopher Clare as Eugene Meehan/Lionel Thompson, Kelsey Verzotti as Donna St. Laurent/Natalie Stampanatto, Dov Mickelson as Moe Katz, Joel Cochrane as J. Edgar Concannon, Steven Conde as Dr. Rexford Towler, Kira Bradley as Dr. Danielle Crowley and Duval Lang as Eldredge Sweeney.
THE VERDICT is written by Barry Reed and adapted for the stage by Margaret May Hobbs, Directed by Jack Grinhaus, Assistant Directed by Daniel Fong, Set Design by Narda McCarroll, Costume Design by Rebecca Toon, Lighting Design by Jessie Paynter, Sound Design & Composition by Miranda Martini, Fight Direction by John Knight, Voice and Dialect Coach Sarah Rose, Assistant Set & Lighting Design by Tiffany Lynn Cuffley, Sound Design Mentor Alixandra Cowman, with Stage Management by Carissa Sams, Michael Luong, and Jocelyn Smith.
THE VERDICT previews at Vertigo Theatre May 9 - 13, with the official opening on Thursday, May 14 at 7:30 pm. Single tickets start at $32 and are available at the Vertigo Theatre Ticket Office, by phone: 403.221.3708 or online www.vertigotheatre.com.
