Purchase of tickets does NOT guarantee a table reservation; you must call to reserve seats.  Seating, as well as standing-room, is available only on a first-come, first-served basis for all shows without a dinner reservation.  Two drink or $12 food minimum per person is standard.

Sarah Manguso is the author of the memoir The Two Kinds of Decay, the story collection Hard to Admit and Harder to Escape, and the poetry collections Siste Viator (SISS-tay vee-AH-tore) and The Captain Lands in Paradise. Her books have been included on "Best of the Year" lists at Time Out Chicago, the Village Voice, and the San Francisco Chronicle. Born and raised near Boston, she lives in Brooklyn and teaches at the Pratt Institute.

Jayne Anne Phillips was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia. She is the author of three novels, MotherKind (2000), Shelter (1994) and Machine Dreams (1984), and two collections of widely anthologized stories, Fast Lanes (1987) and Black Tickets (1979). She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, and a Bunting Fellowship. She has been awarded the Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction (1980) and an Academy Award in Literature (1997) by the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Her work has been translated into twelve languages, and has appeared in Granta, Harper’s, DoubleTake, and The Norton Anthology of Contemporary Fiction. She is currently Professor of English and Director of the MFA Program at Rutgers-Newark, the State University of New Jersey. Her new novel, Lark and Termite was published by Knopf in January, 2009.

Springfield, Illinois native Daniel Knox began making music by sneaking into the Chicago Hilton Tower’s Grand Ballroom to teach himself to play the piano.  He has since shared a stage with his hero, legendary filmmaker David Lynch, as well as Rufus Wainwright, David Coulter, Jarvis Cocker, Damon Albarn, Sandy Dillon, Camille O’Sullivan, and Baby Dee and has toured in the UK as support for the Handsome Family.  A Harold Arlen for the darker set, he bellows tales of disillusionment, obsession, and criminal intent with as much sarcasm as sincerity.  Daniel Knox is a rogue at the piano, crooning, sneering and shouting so that his cast of characters may speak.

Amanda Stern is the author of three novels, the critically acclaimed novel, The Long Haul and two young adult books written under a pseudonym. She founded the “Happy Ending Music and Reading Series” out of the Happy Ending bar in 2003 and has been running, curating and hosting it ever since.  She’s at work on her next adult novel and a series of children’s book.

The Happy Ending Music and Reading Series, chosen by New York Magazine and NY Press as the best reading series in NYC, and singled out by the New York Times Magazine for helping to "Keep downtown alive," features the most interesting storytellers, writers, musicians, raconteurs and personalities, and requires the readers to take one public risk, while the musicians, who perform two short sets with their original, lyric-driven music, are required to play one cover song and try to get the audience to sing along.
