By: Stephen Sorokoff
Critically acclaimed artists Stacy Sullivan and Todd Murray brought a thought provoking, sometime humorous, and musically entertaining look at the very human quandary of "should I stay or should I go with " with their show Separate Ways to Feinstein's/54 Below last night and Broadwayworld was there. They say that breaking up is hard to do; most certainly. But with writers such as George Gershwin, Joni Mitchell, Adam Guettel, Adele, we find that skies can be sunny blue or grey, and goodbyes can be happy. Songwriters have looked for ways to express the angst of people's need to be joined and separate at the same time. Todd and Stacy are masters at bringing honesty and life to their lyrics.
Winner of the Nightlife, Bistro and 2015 and 2016 MAC Award for Outstanding Major Artist from the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs, Stacy Sullivan has appeared in esteemed venues around the world; from Crazy Coqs in London to Café Carlyle, Birdland, and Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. Her six albums, including her most recent "Stranger in a Dream" and "It's a Good Day," can be heard regularly on SiriusXM Radio, WNYC, and "piano Jazz" on NPR.
Todd Murray has performed his solo shows across the nation to rave reviews with numerous awards and nominations. Known for his mellifluous and honest interpretations of lyrics and melody, The New York Times declares of Todd Murray that he's "the real deal...impeccable...trembling sensitivity;" The New York observer "A throaty and mellow baritone, perfect diction, meticulous phrasing and great time;" and The LA Times, "A prepossessing performer with a beautiful baritone." Murray's three recordings "Croon," "Stardust and Swing" and "When I Sing Low" can be heard on radio and digital media across the spectrum from jazz to standards to pop.
