Sarah Jane McMahon Sunday, September 13 at 7:30 PM

Versatile doesn't begin to describe New Orleans born soprano Sarah Jane McMahon. Kept busy on two continents and from coast to coast, Sarah Jane is the rare artist as accomplished on the opera stage, singing with the likes of Placido Domingo, as she is wrapping her silvery voice around Broadway show tunes both old and new.

Join her on a musical journey from Harold Arlen to Kurt Weill seasoned with a little touch of French Opera and New Orleans Jazz for good measure. A favorite of both New York City Opera and Scott Siegel's "Broadway by the Year," this is Sarah Jane's debut with Joe's Pub. $15

THE PIVEN MONOLOGUES

Monday, September 14 at 7:30 PM

"My understanding is that he is leaving show business to pursue a career as a thermometer." David Mamet, Variety, December 2008.

"However, it is not known whether he is an oral or rectal one. I can guess. LOL." Comment by "Larry", January, 2009, random website, the Internet.

When Jeremy Piven made his abrupt exit from the Broadway production of Speed-the-Plow due to the alleged illness of mercury poisoning, Mr. Mamet may have been the first to comment - but he was by no means the last. In this new age of instant global communication, no matter how minor the story or how wacky the rumor, everyone gets to have their say. THE PIVEN MONOLOGUES presents a selection of the shitstorm in a very special staged reading. $12

WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS:

The Cast of HAIR sings a Benefit for Lindsay Thomas

Monday, September 14 at 9:30 and 11:30 PM

On September 14, the entire cast of the Broadway Revival of HAIR will take the stage for two very special concerts at Joe's Pub. The 9:30 and 11:30 pm concerts, ‘With A Little Help from My Friends,' will help celebrate and benefit Broadway and Stratford Shakespeare Festival actress, Lindsay Thomas. Thomas, a veteran of Broadway's Hairspray, as well as Toronto productions of Hairspray and Jersey Boys, was recently diagnosed with stage-four lung cancer, and is currently undergoing aggressive chemotherapy in Toronto, Canada. This one night only benefit concert will help raise funds to contribute to the cost of Thomas's medical care, including medications, and holistic therapies.

Joining the cast of HAIR will be some of Lindsay's closest theatre friends, including: All Shook Up's Nikki M. James, The Phantom of the Opera's Ryan Silverman, Hairspray veterans Karen Burthwright and Leslie McDonel as well as MiLes Johnson from the touring company of Rent, and Jamie McKnight from the Canadian production of The Producers.

‘With A Little Help From My Friends' is being produced by Thomas' close friend, Caissie Levy, who plays Sheila in HAIR. Levy said in a statement, "Lindsay is one of my best friends, and a truly incredible woman. She has the biggest heart, and is always the first person to help out a friend in his or her time of need. When I approached our Tribe of actors, musicians, and producers, and told them Lindsay's story, everyone jumped at the opportunity to come to her aid. We hope people within the New York community will join us to benefit Lindsay's cause, and to celebrate the healing power of music and friendship." Both concerts will be musically directed by Lon Hoyt.
