Former One Direction member Zayn Malik has broke his media silence since his departure from the popular boy group on Wednesday. The 22-year-old singer recently spoke with The Sun about his decisions to leave stardom in an attempt to restore normalcy to his life.

"You know, I did try to do something that I wasn't happy doing for a while, for the sake of maybe other people's happiness," Malik stated. "And that was mainly the fans. And I only ever tried to do it for the fans, and it was only ever for them."

Malik assured fans that his decision in no way had to do with hostility between his other bandmates, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne."Do you mean there was like a negativity between us? They couldn't be more wrong, to be honest," he said. He went on to detail the overwhelming support he recieved from the other boys, and expressed his grattitude towards their respect for his choices.

In order to regain his mental health and lead a life somewhat out of the spotlight, Malik believes he's made the right decision. "It is crazy and wild and a bit mad but at the same time I've never felt more in control in my life."
