Coming up on Friday, February 28 at 9:00PM EST, PBS will present the national, TV broadcast premiere of Jazz and the Philharmonic, a co-production by the National YoungArts Foundation-a national organization that identifies and supports the next generation of artists-the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, and JAZZ ROOTS Producer Larry Rosen. Jazz and the Philharmonic was presented and filmed at the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center on January 11, 2013 and is a unique and wholly American concert experience which highlights two of the greatest musical art forms, classical and jazz. Featured artists of the broadcast will include Bobby McFerrin, 10-time GRAMMY Award-winning vocalist and YoungArts Master Teacher, Chick Corea, 20-time GRAMMY award-winning virtuoso pianist, Dave Grusin, 12-time GRAMMY and Oscar-winning pianist/composer, Terence Blanchard, five-time GRAMMY Award-winning and YoungArts alumnus trumpeter, who is also the artistic director for the Henry Mancini Institute, and Mark O'Connor, two-time GRAMMY award winning violinist, whose career has been based on the intersection of classical music and American folk music,

Jazz and the Philharmonic will also feature Eric Owens, Metropolitan Opera star and YoungArts alumnus, Elizabeth Joy Roe, classical pianist and YoungArts alumna, Desmond Richardson, choreographer, dancer and YoungArts alumnus, Shelly Berg, three-time GRAMMY Award-nominated Frost School of Music Dean, Music Director, pianist, arranger and YoungArts Master Teacher; and Frost School of Music's acclaimed Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra, conducted by resident conductor Scott Flavin.

This one time only special emphasizes the works of legendary composers such as Bach and Mozart with these contemporary artists. Songs are performed with the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra from the University of Miami Frost School of Music and National YoungArts Foundation alumni.

Airing directly after Jazz and the Philharmonic at 10:30PM EST, YoungArts and PBS will present Becoming an Artist. A celebration of our cultural vitality and the need to ensure its continuance, this documentary program is an inspiring tribute to the power of mentoring and the vital role it plays in passing on our artistic cultural heritage from one generation to the next. It features acclaimed artists across the disciplines, including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Robert Redford, Rosie Perez, Bill T. Jones, Frank Gehry, Brian Stokes Mitchell, John Guare and Kathleen Turner working with some of the nation's most talented young artists selected by the National YoungArts Foundation.
