According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Hanks is set to write a collection of short stories to be published by Alfred A. Knopf. No title or publication date was announced.

The project is described as "a collection of stories loosely connected to photographs of typewriters from Hanks' personal collection."

In a statement Hanks revealed, "I've been collecting typewriters for no particular reason since 1978 - both manual and portable machines dating from the thirties to the nineties. The stories are not about the typewriters themselves, but rather, the stories are something that might have been written on one of them."

The actor recently finished his first short story work for the New Yorker titled "Alan Bean Plus Four," which was featured in the Oct. 27 issue. The tale followed "four teens who build a rocket out of parts from a Home Depot and fly it to the moon."

The actor's upcoming big screen projects include A Hologram for the King and The Lost Symbol. He recently starred in Saving Mr. Banks, Captain Phillips, Cloud Atlas, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close and Toy Story 3. He won both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for his roles in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump. Hanks made his Broadway debut last year in Nora Ephron's Lucky Guy.
