Producers Guild Announces Nominees for Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today its Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures nominees that will advance in the voting process for the 27th Annual Producers Guild Awards. All other nominations and names of eligible producers for the Award for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures will be announced on January 5, 2016. All 2016 Producers Guild Award winners will be presented on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

The films nominated for the Award for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures are listed below in alphabetical order:

During the awards show, the Producers Guild will also present special honors to Jim Gianopulos, David Heyman and Shonda Rhimes, among others. The 2016 Producers Guild Awards Co-Chairs are Michael DeLuca (SOCIAL NETWORK, CAPTAIN PHILLIPS) and Jennifer Todd (ALICE IN WONDERLAND, CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER). Sponsors to-date of the event include: Cadillac, the Official Automotive Partner of the PGA; Delta Air Lines, the 2016 Official Airline Partner of the PGA; PRG, Production Resource Group, a PGA annual sponsor; Panasonic, a PGA annual sponsor; Univision Communications, sponsor of the PGA Awards cocktail reception.

In 1990, the Producers Guild held the first-ever Golden Laurel Awards, which were renamed the Producers Guild Awards in 2002. Richard Zanuck and Lili Fini Zanuck took home the award for Best Produced Motion Picture for DRIVING MISS DAISY, establishing the Guild's awards as a bellwether for the Oscars. Last year, the PGA awarded BIRDMAN with its Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, marking the eighth consecutive year the Producers Guild has presaged the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' choice.
