President Barack Obama will sit down with "NBC Nightly News" anchor Lester Holt for an in-depth and intimate interview in Chicago this Tuesday, ahead of the president's farewell address to the nation.

Holt will have rare access, traveling on Air Force One with President Obama on his final trip to Chicago -- the birthplace of his campaign -- as Commander in Chief. The two will also visit a restaurant in Hyde Park to discuss how the president believes he delivered on the promises made eight years ago and his hope for the nation moving forward.

The one-hour "Dateline NBC" special, "Barack Obama: The Reality of Hope," airs Friday, January 13 at 10p/9c. Portions of the interview will also be featured on the platforms of NBC News and MSNBC, including TODAY, NBC NIGHTLY NEWS and NBCNews.com.

The interview is Holt's second with the president. In the fall of 2015, the Nightly News anchor joined President Obama at a residential treatment center in Newark, New Jersey to discuss criminal justice reform and to look ahead to his final year in office.
