Accord to The Wrap, Lee Daniels is in discussions to helm a remake of the 1983 Oscar winning film TERMS OF ENDEARMENT from Paramount Pictures. Oprah Winfrey will reportedly star as overbearing mother Aurora Greenway.

The role was originally portrayed by Shirley MacLaine, earning her an Oscar for Best Actress. The film was the recipient of 11 Academy Award nominations, winning five, including a nod for Best Picture. In addition, James L. Brooks picked up three Oscars for producing, directing, and adapting Larry McMurtry's novel to the big screen.

The remake would mark a reunion for Winfrey and Butler, who collaborated on worked the 2013 hit "The Butler" for The Weinstein Company. Neither Paramount nor reps for Daniels and Winfrey have responded to TheWrap's request for comment.

Terms of Endearment spans 30 years in the rocky relationship between Aurora and her daughter, Emma (played by Debra Winger), "and their struggle to find the courage and humor to live through life's hazards."
