Noted writer-director Gabriel Judet-Weinshel has started his second week of principal photography on his highly-anticipated sci-fi feature film OMPHALOS. Edoardo Ballerini stars in this genre-bending film. Compared to the cult-hit PI by indie master filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, the flick is being touted as a probable "break-through performance" for Ballerini. www.omphalosmovie.com.

The charismatic actor has starred in over 40 films and tv shows, including recurring roles in "Boardwalk Empire", "The Sopranos," "24," and in the indie hit "Dinner Rush." While it's impossible to gauge with certainty when any performer will break through, industry insiders are watching this film closely, for evidence of Ballerini's potential star status.

Called an "exciting New York actor on the rise," Ballerini is known for the integrity and elegance of his work. The New Yorker Magazine has written, "Edoardo Ballerini has a fox's eyes and the intense self-possession of a ballet dancer." Fittingly, Ballerini has played Rudolph Valentino in the film GOOD NIGHT, VALENTINO, which appeared at the Sundance Film Festival. www.edoardoballerini.com.

OMPHALOS tells the story of a detective (Ballerini) who discovers his own dead body. Ultimately he discovers seven different versions of himself. The role demands remarkable versatility, which Ballerini is reportedly delivering. So far, veteran character actors Austin Pendelton, and Lynn Cohen have rounded out the cast of this serious-minded New York film.

Written and helmed by Judet-Weinshel www.waxwingfilms.com, cited as a "cutting-edge, yet commercial" director, the film starts as an outwardly directed chase, that turns into an inwardly-looking journey. The film also boasts the F/X Master Aidan Fraser ("Pirates of the Carribean," and "Star Wars") among its distinguished creative team.
