Matt Okine's Stan Original Series THE OTHER GUY Renewed For Second Season

Stan has announced that Stan Original Series THE OTHER GUY, created by and starring leading Australian comedy talent Matt Okine, has been commissioned for a second season. The series is financed with support from Screen Australia and Create NSW.

The first season of THE OTHER GUY brought Australian audiences a funny, raw and poignant look at break-ups in the modern age and at the harsh reality of recovering from heartache with Matt Okine portraying successful radio host, AJ Amon, who finds himself unexpectedly back in the dating pool for the first time in a decade, after discovering his long-term girlfriend has been having an affair with his best friend. The series received popular acclaim with Matt Okine nominated for a rising star award at the AACTA's, while Junkee called it "Your new TV Show crush."

THE OTHER GUY Season 2 is produced by AQUARIUS Films and Wooden Horse with the support of Create NSW and Screen Australia. Angie Fielder, Polly Staniford and Alice Willison will produce for AQUARIUS with Jude Troy executive producing for Wooden Horse.

The new season picks up 5 months on from the end Season 1:

AJ Amon has lost everything - his house, his job, his best friend - and to make matters worse he's just found out his ex-girlfriend is pregnant and it may or may not be his. When a producer approaches AJ to make a TV show about his sty life, he thinks he may finally have an opportunity to get back on top. But how do you make a show about your life without pissing off everyone in it? Will AJ use the show to get revenge on the people who wronged him or will reliving the past only keep him stuck there?

The series will once again shoot on location in Sydney and will go into production in the coming months. Many of the cast from Season 1, including break-out star Harriet Dyer as AJ's best friend Stevie, will return for Season 2.

Matt Okine said, "To have the opportunity to make season two of The Other Guy is genuinely a dream come true, and I'm super proud that we get to keep making such a funny, unique show with the rawness and honesty that made the first season so well-loved. I've also been putting a lot of mental preparation into filming because it's impossible to keep a straight face when you're working with Harriet Dyer, who is hands-down one of the funniest people and performers I know. I can't wait to show Australian and international audiences the next chapter of this story."

Nick Forward, Stan's Chief Content Officer said, "The Other Guy really connected with Stan audiences, and they've have been telling us that they're ready to go on another adventure with AJ and Stevie. We're thrilled with where Matt, Harriet, and the team at AQUARIUS and Wooden Horse are taking the characters in the second season."

Angie Fielder and Polly Staniford of AQUARIUS Films said, "The Other Guy is a diverse millennial comedy distinctly set in Sydney's inner west that is a microcosm of the lifestyle of single 30-somethings navigating the world of dating in the digital age. We are so excited to be embarking on Season Two with Wooden Horse and to be continuing our relationship with Stan. We are also delighted that Aquarius' Alice Willison will be stepping up to produce the second season alongside us."

The Stan Original Series THE OTHER GUY is distributed outside Australia by Entertainment One (eOne). Season 1 has already been picked up by Hulu in the US and Super Channel in Canada.

"eOne is thrilled to see the show going into a second season and are delighted to see its investment in developing the show reap rewards for all partners involved," commented Stuart Baxter, President, International Distribution, eOne.
