Matt Lauer to Exit TODAY Following Upcoming Presidential Election?

According to Showbiz411, sources close to NBC's long-running morning show TODAY reveal that anchorman Matt Lauer will likely exit the show when his contract expires this year. "There's no way he's staying this time," reveal the insiders.

Lauer's departure is expected to occur soon after the upcoming November presidential election. Willie Geist is expected to fill the vacancy. As BWW reported today, Geist will soon take over as host of the Sunday edition of TODAY.

In June of 2014, Lauer inked a two year contract for a whopping $20 million per year. In recent months, ratings for TODAY have surged, with the show now besting its competition, ABC's GOOD MORNING AMERICA in the all-important 18-49 demographic.

The site reports that Lauer may remain a fixture on the network following his exit. He is expected to anchor special episodes of DATELINE.
