Sundance Channel's new drama series The Descendants will co-star Julianne Nicholson, according to Deadline.com. It has been picked up for six one-hour episodes and hails from acclaimed writer Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband, Prisoners) and veteran producer Sarah Condon (Bored to Death).

The Descendants is a hard-hitting drama that revolves around a sheriff struggling to keep his family together while simultaneously policing two clashing communities: the small town where he grew up and the neighboring Ramapo Mountains, home of the Ramapo Mountain Indians. After a terrible tragedy and coverup occurs involving the sheriff's wife, Jean (Nicholson) an unholy alliance is forged between the sheriff and a dangerous member of the tribe that will come back to haunt all involved.

Writer Guzikowski penned the pilot script, and created the series with veteran producer Sarah Condon. Guzikowski's feature Prisoners was just released in May and stars Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Melissa Leo. Most recently, Sarah Condon served as Executive Producer on HBO's Bored To Death. Previously, Condon was Senior Vice President of Original Programming at HBO.

Nicholson will next appear in John Wells' adaptation of August: Osage County. She appeared off-Broadway in Stranger in 2000. Her TV credits include Boardwalk Empire, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Conviction, Presidio Med, Ally McBeal, The Others and more. Past films include: Keep the Lights On, Shadows & Lies, Little New York, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, Two Weeks, Puccini for Beginners, Seagull, Kinsey and more.
