The Superstition Mountains are an enigmatic land with a cursed history. Stretching across 160,000 acres of unforgiving Arizona desert may reside a $200 million fortune - lost gold that is the epicenter of a 500-year-old mystery. Thousands have tried and failed to decode the series of cryptic clues said to lead to the fortune, leaving a trail of bodies and blood for anyone who has gotten too close to the truth. Now, in HISTORY's new series, LEGEND OF THE SUPERSTITION MOUNTAINS, premiering Sunday, February 8 at 10pm ET/PT, new evidence dares five brave treasure hunters to defy the curse and tackle the deadly terrain to unearth the secrets of the Lost Dutchman's gold.

The Superstition Mountains has long been targeted by fortune hunters and is the backdrop for dozens of mysterious and unexplained deaths. Its storied deadly treasure-trove of gold links back to the Conquistadors in the 1500s, but of all the legends to come out of these mountains, the most famous story is that of the Lost Dutchman Mine. The Dutchman, Jacob Waltz, was a prospector who came to the area in the 1860s. Legend says that Waltz discovered an untapped mine with enough gold to make millionaires out of 20 men. The Dutchman's legend claims that he killed four people to find the mine, and three more to keep it a secret - a secret he took to his grave. On his deathbed in 1891, he confessed a series of cryptic riddles about the location of his treasure. Other clues revealed through the years have kept the legend alive, and have sent thousands in search for answers. Many at their own peril.

In THE LEGEND OF THE SUPERSTITION MOUNTAINS, veteran Dutch Hunter, Wayne Tuttle, continues his 40-year search for the Lost Dutchman mine, but this time he's taking on partners in order to follow a new lead - a rarely seen map, with new clues that could potentially solve the mystery of America's most famous and deadliest buried treasure. But with each team member bringing an important piece to the table, can they trust each other with so much on the line? Or will the curse of the mountains lead to more casualties?
