ABC.net reports today that Sunday night's Season Four Finale of the wildly popular HBO drama Game of Thrones has become the most pirated program in history.

According to internet tracking site TorrentFreak the episode, titled 'The Children,' was downloaded approximately 1.5 million times in the twelve hours following the show's broadcast on the cable network. That number is expected to grow to up to 7.5 million over the next few weeks - almost equaling the 7.1 million people who tuned in for the live broadcast.

The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia are the biggest downloaders. In Australia, an impressive 2.2% of the population (around 500,000 people) reportedly downloaded each episode.

Foxtel has been met with a backlash following an exclusivity arrangement the cable company made with HBO which forced the show off legal download sites such as iTunes which previously made episodes of the show available at the same time it aired.
