GAME OF THRONES Casting Director Nina Gold to Receive BAFTA Special Award

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced today that one of the UK's leading casting directors, Nina Gold, will be honoured with the BAFTA Special Award at this year's British Academy Television Craft Awards on Sunday April 24 at The Brewery, London.

The year's Special Award recognises Gold's outstanding contribution to casting across over 100 television and film productions including Games of Thrones, London Spy, Wolf Hall, John Adams, The King's Speech, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything and Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. This will be the first time BAFTA has recognised a casting director with the Special Award.

Krishnendu Majumdar, Chair of BAFTA's Television Committee, said: "Nina has a superb eye for talent and a genuine commitment to her craft, which has been borne out by the success of so many of the productions she's worked on. Nina's impressive portfolio highlights an incredible contribution to television so I'm delighted that she will be receiving this year's Special Award."

Nina Gold said: "I feel both delighted and humbled to be the first Casting Director to receive this Special Award. It is wonderful that BAFTA has shone a light onto the craft of casting. Throughout my career, I have been privileged to work on an array of fantastic programmes, in partnership with many wonderfully talented directors and actors. I feel honoured that my contribution has been recognised, and I look forward to celebrating this award on Sunday 24 April. Thank you BAFTA."

Gold began her career in casting with the films Twin Town and The Borrowers in 1997, and went on to cast every Mike Leigh film since they paired up for Topsy-Turvy in 1999. Over the course of her career, she has cast several critically acclaimed television series and films and is known to cast new faces into high profile roles. She is a member of the UK's Guild of Casting Directors and is the recipient of two Primetime Emmy awards for her work on John Adams in 2008 and GAME OF THRONES in 2015.

The nominations for the British Academy Television Craft Awards will be announced on 22 March, and the ceremony will take place at The Brewery on Sunday 24 April, 2016.
