Discovery Channel's SHARK WEEK Takes a Bite Out of the Competition

Shark Week 2014 continues its TV domination this week (8/10/14-8/11/14) with Discovery currently ranking as the #1 Primetime network in all of television* among M18-49 and P/M/W18-34 delivery - beating out all other broadcast and cable networks in these key demos. Discovery's also earned its highest-rated Shark Week Monday ever in key demos during Prime Time with a 1.81 P25-54 rating, delivering 3.210 million viewers (Persons 2+). This beats out last year's record-setting Monday, which earned a 1.77 P25-54 rating and delivered an average of 3.178 million total viewers (Persons 2+).

Jaws Strikes Back, at 9 PM, earned a 1.99 P25-54 rating and delivered an average of 3.412 million viewers (Persons 2+). It was also the #1 non-sports telecast in all of television on Monday evening among M18-49 delivery. Monster Hammerhead, at 10 PM, earned a 2.00 P25-54 rating and delivered an average of 3.454 million viewers (Persons 2+); it was the #2 non-sports telecast in all of television among M18-49 delivery. Shark After Dark, SHARK WEEK's late-night talk show at 11 PM, earned a 0.92 P25-54 rating and delivered an average of 1.600 million viewers P2+, ranking as the #1 original late-night cable telecast among M25-54 and M18-49 delivery.

On the digital front, Shark Week continues to drive engagement and conversation online, with year-over-year double-digit growth in page views, visitors and streams at SharkWeek.com. The Shark Week feeding frenzy on social media also shows no signs of stopping, as Facebook engagement around Shark Week content was up 43 percent vs. the same day last year, while Monday night's premieres continued to dominated Twitter, driving Trending Topics in the U.S. and worldwide.

SHARK WEEK, television's longest running must-see summer TV event, continues with new specials airing tonight Tuesday, August 12, with Alien Sharks: Return to the Abyss, at 9 PM ET/PT and Lair of the Mega Shark at 10 PM ET/PT. Shark After Dark airs live through Thursday, August 14, at 11 PM ET/PT with tonight's show welcoming Stone Cold Steve Austin, Actor/Comedian Tom Green and a variety of other special guests.
