Derek Sheen's UNRELATABLE Comedy Special to Premiere on YouTube
Brian Posehn, Patton Oswalt and Lindy West have praised the Seattle comedian's dark, autobiographical style.
Seattle comedian Derek Sheen's 5th hour of comedy, which is also his first fully-self produced special, Unrelatable premieres August 21 at 5pm PT, 8pm ET on YouTube, followed by a September audio album release both out via Blonde Medicine.
Derek Sheen is a cuddly mess of insecurities, a human hug and a one-of-a-kind storyteller. He has amassed a loyal fanbase after years of touring with such acts as Patton Oswalt, Janeane Garofalo and Brian Posehn who said, 'Derek is so funny and smart it makes me mad.' Sheen has been described as audacious, irreverent and a 'human hug' by acclaimed author Lindy West. His ability to mine humor from the dark underbelly of the human condition has made him a favorite of comedy nerds around the globe.
On Unrelatable Derek Sheen tackles the creeping indignities of aging, chronic social awkwardness, and the strange comfort of feeling out of step with everyone. Through dark autobiographical stories and irreverent, meticulously crafted bits, he makes an unusually compelling case that discomfort is pretty universal.
Derek Sheen has been writing and performing comedy since his late teens. But after 4 full-length hour releases, a string of tremendous personal losses befell him followed by 2 years of lockdown that he says 'changed [him] fundamentally on a molecular basis.' This was the moment that comedy became less about joke-writing and more about mining humor from real-life tragedy, a transition that brought out a more genuine version of himself. 'This hour is the most honest and genuine thing I've ever written,' he said. 'I hope the audience can laugh with me at the darkness and absurdity of being a human being, because as uniquely awkward as our individual journeys seem, we are all, in the end, relatable.'
Unrelatable can be viewed on Blonde Medicine's YouTube channel, with the audio album version available as of September 11 wherever albums are sold or heard.
