Broadway's Chris Messina (Salome) has been cast to star in "Devil" based on a story by M. Night Shyamalan. The film will be directed by John Erick and Drew Dowdle with a script by Brian Nelson. Filming will begin in Toronto in late October.

The film will be the first in the Night Chronicles series, three films which Shyamalan will create and give to directors to transfer to the screen. Universal, the movies producers, have not yet released the details on the plot of "Devil."

Messina has appeared on Broadway in Salome in 2003.  Additional stage credits include: Caryl Churchill's Far Away at New York Theatre Workshop, Adam Rapp's Faster at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater and Melanie Marnich's Blur at Manhattan Theatre Club. He has appeared in episodes of the television series Law & Order, Third Watch and Medium. He had a recurring role in the fifth and final season of the HBO drama Six Feet Under, playing Claire's (Lauren Ambrose) love interest Ted Fairwell. His film credits include Rounders, The Siege, You've Got Mail and Nothing is Private, Ira and Abby (winner of best comedy at the HBO Comedy Festival earlier that year), Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Julie & Julia.
