According to TVGuide.com, Charlie Sheen has officially put his name up for consideration as the next judge on AMERICAN IDOL's 12th season. The actor told the show's host Ryan Seacrest that he is "genuinely interested" in the job.

Sheen called into Seacrest's radio show yesterday to respond to reports that Nigel Lythgoe, producer of the FOX singing competition, had mentioned him as a "possible replacement" for exiting judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Commented Sheen, "It kind of came out of nowhere and ... it seems so out of the blue that it almost made perfect sense," Sheen told Seacrest. "I thought this could be a lot of fun. Seriously ... I'm genuinely interested. It's so different, it could be radical."

The actor currently stars on the new FX comedy series 'Anger Management.'

Other names that producers are reportedly considering as judges on next season's show include Mariah Carey, and former Idol contestant Adam Lambert. Yesterday, the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, expressed an interest in joining the show next season.
