Channing Tatum Will Officially Play 'Gambit' in X-MEN Spinoff

Channing Tatum's X-MEN spinoff is officially moving forward.

According to Deadline, Fox has brought on ROBOCOP's Josh Zetumer to pen the screenplay for the film, following seminal comic character 'Gambit,' with Tatum signed on to star.

Per the report, the character "has the ability to charge matter with volatile kinetic energy, causing the object in question to explosively release its charge on impact."

The next X-MEN film, 'DAYS OF FUTURE PAST,' hits theaters on May 23, and stars Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender,James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Halley Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, Lucas Till and Evan Jonigkeit.

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The beloved characters from the original "X-Men" film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class, in an epic battle that must change The Past - to save our future.

Tatum is best known for his roles in Step Up (2006), G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009), Dear John (2010), THE VOW (2012), 21 JUMP STREET (2012) and MAGIC MIKE (2012). He has also appeared in films such as Coach Carter (2005), She's the Man (2006), A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006), Fighting (2009), and The Dilemma(2010) and G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013).
