Cartoon Network Announces Launch of OK K.O.! LAKEWOOD PLAZA TURBO
By: Caryn Robbins
Cartoon Network Studios, recognized for its artists-first approach to content development, is embarking on an era of developing immersive worlds via digital collaborations, with the launch of OK K.O.! LAKEWOOD PLAZA TURBO, an original idea conceived by renowned animator Ian Jones-Quartey (supervising producer, Steven Universe).
Sparked by Jones-Quartey's original short film, Lakewood Plaza Turbo was incubated at Cartoon Network Studio's acclaimed Artists Program. The world of OK K.O.! was further developed in partnership with Toby Jones (storyboard director, Regular Show), and in collaboration with Canadian independent game studio Double Stallion. The mobile game will be accompanied by animated shorts to view on Cartoon Network's digital platforms, with each short coming from different animation studios offering their own unique perspectives on OK K.O.! Following the mobile game launch, Cartoon Network will open up further content exploration to the independent game development community by hosting a Game Jam in Portland, Oregon on February 12-14. Two-Hundred (200) participating independent game developers will have 48 HOURS to create their own games based on the extensive cast of heroes in the Lakewood Plaza universe. Their creations will inform future iterations of the property and the winning team will be awarded a fully funded project to continue work on their game jam prototype. Additional honorees will have their projects published on CartoonNetwork.com.
