CBS News' 48 HOURS will launch today "The Hannah Graham Story," the Emmy-award winning broadcast's first-ever five-part, show-specific podcast produced in conjunction with the premiere of a new primetime season. The first installment of the podcast, anchored by WTOP-FM Correspondent Neal Augenstein, will be available free for download at Play.it.

The podcasts reveal the story of Hannah Graham, a bright, young college student with a promising future who went missing in Charlottesville, Va. and was ultimately murdered. Graham disappeared after a night out with friends. The search for her was the most exhaustive in Virginia history. After her body was found, the investigation into her death generated national attention, leading police to cases of other unsolved attacks against young women spanning a decade.

"The Hannah Graham story hits home with so many families, and there are so many layers, that it was perfect for the podcast format," says 48 HOURS Senior Executive Producer Susan Zirinsky. "Each podcast is a unique slice of our story. Rich in detail - experiential - we expect anyone who listens to even a few minutes will also become devoted viewers to our primetime broadcasts. These podcasts provide a perfect lead-in to our two-hour primetime investigation into the fascinating yet heartbreaking Graham case on Sept. 26."

Full-length editions of 48 HOURS have been available on Play.it since the 2014-2015 season. "The Hannah Graham Story" marks the first crime and justice podcast by the 48 HOURS team specifically for the podcasts on Play.it.

"The Hannah Graham story is so tragic yet compelling that it takes a news team like 48 HOURS to do it justice," says Augenstein, who is also featured on the CBS Television Network broadcast, "Hannah Graham: Deadly Connections." "It's an honor to collaborate with them on the broadcast and podcast."

New installments of "The Hannah Graham Story" podcasts will be posted each morning from Sept. 14-18 and remain available to viewers leading into the primetime broadcast of 48 HOURS: "Hannah Graham: Deadly Connections" on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 9:00 PM, ET/PT.

Susan Spencer and 48 HOURS' two-hour primetime investigation into who killed Graham and the terrifying fear that the accused killer may have struck before, kicks off the 28th full season of Saturday night's #1 non-sports broadcast with viewers. 48 HOURS: "Hannah Graham: Deadly Connections" will feature interviews with investigators, the parents of other young women who may have been victims, and provide in-depth detail into the stunning turn the investigation took when police used Science to match up multiple cases.

The 48 HOURS podcast "The Hannah Graham Story" was written by Neal Augenstein and produced by Michael Vele.

48 HOURS: "Hannah Graham: Deadly Connections" is produced by Marcelena Spencer, Aimee DeSimone, Josh Gelman, Ruth Chenetz and Michael Vele. The field producer is Stephen McCain. Peter Schweitzer is the senior producer. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.
