Bryce Dallas Howard in Talks for Disney's PETE'S DRAGON Remake

By:

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bryce Dallas Howard is in talks to join Disney's live-action and CGI reboot of PETE'S DRAGON, directed by David Lowery from a script he co-wrote with Toby Halbrooks.

The film is a remake of the 1977 classic that followed Pete and his best friend Elliot, who just happens to be a dragon. While the original film was a musical, sources tell the site that the latest incarnation will not feature music. CGI technology will be used to bring 'Elliot' to life on screen. The new story is set in a logging forest, where Pete -- a boy whose parents died in a car crash -- has been raised by Elliot.

Oakes Fegley will star as 'Pete', with MATILDA's Oona Laurence as a newly created character, 'Natalie,' and Robert Redford as "a local who tells tall tales involving dragons that no one believes."

Howard will play "a forest ranger who finds the boy and doesn't believe his stories about a dragon...at first."

Among Howard's upcoming big screen projects are Jurassic World and The Free World. Her recent film credits include 50/50, The Help, Hereafter and more. Howard also appeared on Broadway in 2003's Tartuffe.
