Adam Lambert's 'Trespassing' Snags No. 1 Billboard Spot

Billboard.com reports that Adam Lambert's newly-released album "Trespassing" has climbed to the No. 1 spot on Billboard's 200 Chart. For the first time in Billboard's history, one American Idol contestant is replacing another in the No. 1 spot. Lambert's album debuted at the top of the list with 77,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. His sales dethrown last week's leader, Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away," down to No. 3 (54,000; down 55%).

'Trespassing' is Lambert's first No. 1 album and  his second major label album. It follows "For Your Entertainment," released in 2009, which debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 198,000 sold in its first week. Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" (a debut at No. 1 with 701,000) and Andrea Bocelli's "My Christmas" at No. 2 (218,000) prevented Lambert from reaching the top spot.

Lambert's theatre credits include the national tour and LA productions of WICKED, and THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

Lambert is the seventh "American Idol" finalist to reach No. 1, following Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Underwood, Chris Daughtry (of Daughtry) and Scotty McCreery. The fact that an "Idol" finalist has topped the list for the three consecutive weeks makes it the longest period that an "Idol" alum has maintained the No. 1 slot. 

Behind Lambert on the Billboard 200 this week is Adele's "21," which holds at No. 2 with 63,000 (down 38%).
