AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY's Sam Shepard Signs on for Netflix Thriller

Another stage star has joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix thriller series from the creators of DAMAGES. According to Deadline, playwright and actor Sam Shepard (August: Osage County) will co-star alongside Broadway's Norbert Leo Butz, as well as Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn, Linda Cardellini and Sissy Spacek.

The drama, from Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler, follows "a close-knit family of four adult siblings (Chandler, Mendelsohn, Cardellini, Butz) whose secrets and scars are revealed when the black sheep oldest brother, Danny (Mendelsohn), returns home."

Shepard will play the patriarch of the family, with Spacek as his wife.

As an actor, Shepard's upcoming big screen projects include Shoedog and Ithaca. Among his other recent film credits are Cold in July, Out of the Furnace, August: Osage County, Savannah, Mud, Killing Them Softly, Safe House and more.

Shepard's plays Operation Sidewinder, Buried Child and True West have been produced on Broadway. He won the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Buried Child and was nominated for the honor again in 1983 for True West. Both plays were also nominated for Tony Awards.
