ABC's “Nightline” is #1 Show in Time Period in Total Viewers

ABC News' "Nightline" drew 1.591 million Total Viewers, 696,000 Adults 25-54 and 548,000 Adults 18-49 for the week of September 30, 2013, according to Nielsen Media Research. "Nightline" outperformed CBS' "The Late Late Show" in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+123,000), Adults 25-54 (+74,000) and Adults 18-49 (+71,000). "Nightline" has beaten the CBS program in all key target demos for the last 5 weeks.

"Nightline" claimed the No. 1 telecast in Total Viewers (1.905 million), Adults 25-54 (920,000) and Adults 18-49 (752,000) on Thursday (10/3/13) beating both CBS's "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.705 million, 697,000 and 642,000, respectively) and NBC's "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.567 million, 780,000 and 631,000, respectively).

In addition, the Thursday broadcast of "Nightline" stood as the program's strongest telecast since June in all key target demos - since 6/18/13, 6/20/13 and 6/20/13, respectively.

Week 2 of "Nightline" was up from premiere week (1.571 million, 686,000 and 516,000, respectively, on w/o 9/23/13) in Total Viewers (+1%), Adults 25-54 (+1%) and Adults 18-49 (+6%). The ABC latenight program delivered its best numbers in over 3 months- since w/o 6/10/13, w/o 6/17/13 and w/o 6/17/13, respectively. In addition, "Nightline" was the only program to grow week to week in all 3 measures compared to CBS' "The Late Late Show" (-1%/-1%/+1%, respectively) and NBC's "Late Night" (-5%/-11%/-6%, respectively).

On average in its new time period this season, "Nightline" is up over ABC's performance compared to the same weeks last year in Total Viewers (+1%). In addition, "Nightline" leads CBS' "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" across the board: Total Viewers (+109,000), Adults 25-54 (+65,000) and Adults 18-49 (+58,000).

During the week of September 30th, "Nightline" reported the latest on the car chase through the heart of DC and gunfire that ended in a death at the Capitol; traveled to China for stuntman Jeb Corliss' latest gravity-defying mission; took a closer look at the situation involving motorcyclists who confronted a family in their SUV and the driver who ran over one of the bikers in his path; took a closer look at why American companies are sending their employees abroad for all-expenses-paid healthcare; had an exclusive interview with the wife of the man who opened fire in an Amish classroom; "Nightline" went pink, reporting on breast cancer; and featured "Feed Frenzy" - a nightly look at the buzziest stories of the day, including Miley Cyrus, among many other reports.

The program airs weeknights from 12:35 a.m., ET to 1:00 a.m. on the ABC Television Network. Together with "Jimmy Kimmel Live," "Nightline" is part of ABC's winning late night strategy of airing news and entertainment programming.
